Qualifications

Professional Diploma in Arboriculture

Hosted by the Royal Forestry Society. This qualification is recognised as the pre-eminent qualification in the arboricultural industry. It is a difficult two-part examination that entails a one day theory exam that candidates have to pass prior to be asked to attend the one day practical exam. There are only a small number of successful candidates who achieve the full qualification each year. Attained 2002.

 

MICFor (Professional Member of the Institute of Chartered Foresters [ICF])

This qualification is hosted and assessed by the ICF. The ICF holds the Charter for Arboriculture. There are a number of ways of achieving Professional Member, although the most common way is through an examination process. Attained 2004.

 

Technicians Certificate in Arboriculture

Hosted by the Arboriculture Association. This qualification is the mid-level qualification for the industry. Attained 1998.

 

Higher National Certificate in Forestry

Studied at Newton Rigg College, University of Lancashire, Penrith. Two year part-time course. Attained 1998.

 

Certificate in Arboriculture (Theory)

Hosted by the Royal Forestry Society. This qualification is understood to be the entry level qualification into the industry. It comprises a written examination for the theory portion of the qualification. To gain the full qualification, relevant practical qualifications (NPTCs) need to be gained in a variety of arboriculture and Forestry skills. Attained 1996.
